We went there to celebrate our Uncle's birthday last Sunday. The service was prompt and friendly and hilarious, our drinks were killer steller yummi ness. I got the special of mahi mahi stuffed with crab with Hollandaise , Himalayan rice and green beans, hubbie got the Tuna Salad with pickle and a potato cake, Momma Bear got the Adobe Beef sandwich with pickle and potato cake, but she only ate the beef, and not the bun, the bun was a bit much for peeps trying to watch their lovely figures. All around was a delightful time with the family.

Tried this on 4 Star Yelp rating but were very disappointed. Nice atmosphere and good service but food was nothing exceptional and very bland. Wife had the Filet but it tasted and cut more like a sirloin. Salad warm and needed more dressing. I had the Mahi, it tasted ok but lacked flavor. Not worth the price.

We ate here on Saturday night. We feel this place is one of the best seafood restaurants in Brevard. It's way better than the popular chain seafood places. The service was outstanding and the food was divine. We felt the portions were very good, on par with a fine dining establishment in that you are not going to take home 2 days worth of food. The prices were very good for the quality of food. I would say this restaurant is on par with the fine dining establishments that cost way more to eat at. The music and ambiance were nice for a romantic dinner. This place is definitely worth a try. The wine list has a nice choice of low to moderate priced wines as well as few that are in the higher price point.

This place is ok, but here's my problem... The prices suggest a 5 star experience, but the food is three star, and the service is very disjointed. Our server informed us that they are a new place opened by a husband and wife team that have very little if any restaurant experience. My understanding is the the name has changed to Rum Island Grill due to some sort of trademark issue. I may be back, but I'll give them some time to hit their stride.

Nice romantic atmosphere with peaceful music played by a talented musician . Not from this area, visiting for our anniversary. We enjoyed the food and waitstaff was also great. Nice place to go for a special occasion, was expensive, but worth it.

Amazing experience. Wonderful atmosphere. Superior service and most of all every dish we ate was absolutely delicious. A great find and is now our go to spot for date night beachside.

Stopped by today afternoon. Nice decoration and atmosphere. Has good selection of wine, beer and drink list. But the food is not as good as i expected. Service is okay. The only is unacceptable is the oyster is not fresh so we have to return it. The wine and drink price is reasonable. The food menu is too small and I don't have a lot options and the food presentation is just okay.

Clean, well laid out with inside and outside seating. Nice bar, too. Food was well presented and flavorful. Generous portions. I had the grilled salmon with a rum reduction sauce. Served with a savory rice and crisp green beans. Delicious! Hubby had blackened Mahi tacos and enjoyed them too. He likes his food hot, and said the fish had a nice kick to it. Will definitely return. Maybe have some homemade dessert next time?

First we ordered drinks many of which were unavailable. Decided on two different beers. Each of us got the other's beer and the server didn't know the difference. ceviche appetizer was very good. ordered a 35 dollar mixed grill dish. Duck skin was rubbery and chewy like gum. filet mignon and lamb were good but needed salt. we were never asked how we wanted our meat cooked. Portion sizes were miniscule. Perhaps it was because we sat outside, but our server completely forgot about us several times.

Surprised we didn't leave feedback for Rum Island, FKA Rum Fire Grill. This is our go-to for the only true chef-inspired restaurant on the beach. We have been nearly a dozen times and had many dinner menu items for dine-in and take home. Heading over for dinner now. Not inexpensive but worth it.

Yuck..... by all accounts, bad food, bad service, and expensive to boot! Also just heard by a very reliable source this place has already been written up a number of times!! Oysters smelled like ammonia, mixed turf grill was very fatty and a very small portion, tuna also had funky texture and smell, Save your money and time and go anywhere but here! Gave it 1 star, because the bathroom was clean and my glass of wine was good!

Stopped by for a glass of wine and had a few appetizers. Sat at the bar. Really nice and comfortable. The escargot was delicious and so was the pork appetizer. A sax player was playing easy listening music in the dining room. Service at the bar with Emily was great. Can't wait to return for dinner. Definitely would recommend.

I am visiting so I do not have a comparison but I was very happy. The staff was eager to please and knowledgeable. I would give them 3.5 out of 5. The simple caesar side salad was some of the freshest romaine I have had in some time and the dressing was full of flavor and character. The suggested liquid libation was what I asked for and not stupidly expensive. The main was a standout. sauteed spinach (very well prepared), rice pilaf, and a stuffed catch of the day. I would give the food a 4.5 with dessert obviously fresh made and well executed. I would expect enough consistency to suggest that you try it.

We dined at Rum Island on January 2, 2014. It was our third time there. I had the Mahi, topped with a pineapple and mango salsa, with sides of mixed vegetables and rice ($23). Wife had onion crusted chicken, with sides of mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables, ($16). Both meals came with a salad. Having read at last one negative review that took issue with Rum Island's potion sizes, this has never been an issue on any visit I have had. The portion for dinner was more than adequate for an adult and comparable in size to what you would see at other restaurants at this price point. It is not so large that one could eat dinner and take half home to go and get two more meals from it portion ( like at Cheesecake Factory). It is not so small that one would leave hungry or feel gypped. For those who remember the restaurant that was in this location before i.e. Bonnakers... That restaurant failed and is not in any way affiliated with Rum Island. Rum Island is more up scale, and has better quality more sophisticated menu items at a higher price point. If spending $150.00 for dinner for five (as one reviewer complained about) gives you sticker shock, perhaps you should stick to one of the excellent beachside restaurants in the "family casual" category like Long Doggers. The Onion Crusted chicken is one of my favorite dishes at Yellow Dog, in Palm Bay. The version at Rum Island, is almost as good as that at Yellow Dog ( I would give Yellow Dog's a 10 and Rum Islands an 8), but the dish is cheaper and way closer at Rum Island. Rum Island also has an upgrade salad of Spinach, Blue Berries, and Blue Cheese that is also a feature on Yellow Dogs menu. I wish when our waiter mentioned this choice is would have reminded me that there was an up-change ($3.00) from the included with dinner house salad. (These two menu similarities were the only two I noticed between Rum Island and Yellow Dog... I hope Rum Island keeps their Onion Chicken because it is awesome....) The desert choices seemed uninspired but our waiter did advise that their deserts are made on premises. They desperately need to add Key Lime Pie to the desert menu. Cheese Cake, crème brulee, Orange Cake, and some kind of chocolate cake make up the desert list. I suspect they have a few desert items that rarely sell. This is the part of their menu that most needs an update. Rum Island is NOT one of the top 5 restaurants in the Space Coast. It sits in a middle ground between the much cheaper family casual restaurants ( Long Doggers, Texas Roadhouse etc) and the more expensive top fine dining establishments ( Fat Snook, Yellow Dog, Crush 11). Its prices reflect this. Their prices are moderate. Their food is very good but not outstanding. Our server was professional and attentive. Rum Island is worth a visit and we will return their again. Three and 1/2 Stars.

Nice atmosphere, attentive staff and decent food but the food and drinks are way over priced compared to other comparable or better restaurants in the Melbourne area. That might explain why it was empty on a Friday night when others had a long wait time.

  • Charles B.

Good food and wonderful ambiance. The portions are small for salad and appetizers so don't be afraid to order a few. Cesar salad wasn't up to my standard of good. Oysters Rockefeller was just ok. Steak was cooked perfect and very good.

Three stars is generous for a very disorganized, unfriendly, warehouse calling itself a restaurant. Never again.

Rum Island Grill is now the third business to attempt success at this location. The past two restaurants here haven't faired well and I wasn't expecting Rum Island to do any better. I'll be honest I probably would have never even tried it had my girlfriend not bought a Groupon for it. Boy oh boy, am I glad I did. Really, really good. Our groupon allowed us one appetizer, two entrees and a dessert. We chose the Brie for our appetizer and it was delicious. The serving size is pretty decent and you get a whole plate of assorted goodies to smother the brie all over. At this point I was beginning to like this place. For my main course, I chose the Pork chops while my girlfriend settled on the Pork Osso Bucco. It was amazing. Some of the best pork chops I've had in a very long time. They are literally three times as good as the ones across the street at Texas Roadhouse. The side of mashed potatoes they come rested on was pretty damn good as well. I tried my girlfriends Osso Bucco and was really impressed with her dish also. Next it was time to choose dessert so we went with the Chocolate Ganache Cannoli Cake and it was pretty delicious. Definitely a unique twist on chocolate cake with cannoli between the layers. Our server was also excellent, but she was a bit over-zealous in asking us if we had everything we needed. She must have asked about 10 times but I would much rather have that over a server that doesn't exist. All in all I left Rum Island very full and very impressed. I would not have expected it to be near as good as it was, so I now I'm finding myself hoping it sticks around.

Stopped in 3:30 pm Friday. No one there except us. Beautiful restaurant but the lunch menu is pathetic. Sandwich and $10 burgers. Service is super slow. Food is ok and well presented. 50/50 whether I would try for dinner.

Grouchy greeting by hostess followed by almost 1 hour wait for appetizers. Substandard food mostly submerged in a similar thick sweet sauce. Our group of 8 from Melbourne Beach were mostly disappointed with quality of food although the servers were very polite and attentive. Shrimp were over cooked and smelled bad. Salads not crisp not fresh. Nice interior decor but food standard needs attention. Will not return anytime soon.

I have been here several times since it opened and the service, food and ambience have been absolutely spot on every single time. How can you complain about ANYTHING when meals come out on time and prepared like this. Servers & hostess were very personable and accommodating and the chef is happy to come out to make sure special preparations are to your liking (gluten intolerant guest). 5 stars all around!!!

We went here with my parents on their suggestion and were not disappointed. They had a great beer selection and every dish that came out was wonderful, especially the Churrasco. The service was also very nice and attentive. I would highly recommend this if you're in the area.

Delicious! Went here for appetizers and wine and had a great time. Staff was very helpful in choosing a wine pairing and making suggestions. Very professional, great food and presentation. I loved the ambiance and live music. It was cold when I went, but it looks like their outside seating area is nice as well! Can't wait to go back when I'm in town!

We came for a late lunch early dinner and we were one of the few customers there. Our server was very prompt and helpful with ordering. I ordered the NY strip and my husband the Polynesian chicken. Both of the entrees came with a salad. I had the garden and my husband the cesar. The salads were good - not the best I have ever had but good. My steak was a bit over cooked and lacked in any seasoning. It did not even have salt and pepper on it. It was not a good piece of meat either and for $26.00 I would expect a least a prime piece of meat. The green beans that accompanied it were very under cooked. My husband's chicken was dry and overcooked and had a bit of sauce on it but again under seasoned. I would not recommend it was over priced and the food was not done well.

I've been here a few times and probably for the last time. While Rum Fire Grill looks clean and has nice decor. The quality of the food just doesn't live up. On my last visit I had the stuffed shrimp. Six rubbery shrimp stuffed with a lukewarm crab mixture for twenty something dollars. Mediocre overpriced food served by a pretentious staff. Rum island please ask your bartender to not run his hand through his hair. While making drinks he constantly is pulling his hair back and then touching fruit to add to drinks. Gross!!!!

RUDE hostess actually rushed our group out the door after finishing our meal by stating "I'm not asking you to leave, but "......without any apologies . We left quickly afterward, but then all said to each other, "what just happened?" We agreed that we would NOT return . I didn't expect such concern for flipping tables at this establishment. Another problem was the Pino beef kabobs. Wow, absolutely inedible chunks of chewy, gristly meat. 4 of the 6 of us had this meal and all 4 were similar. I don't know what cut of meat they used but they could learn from Petty's Meat market on how to select a nice cut of beef for a better kabob. We won't be back!

Terrible service. Two hour lunch. Terrible food. Never again! Staff wouldn't tell us computers were down. They had no way to imprint our cards. Ignored us. Then offered us coupons?! Coupons?!?!!! No way we'd ever go back.

Best food in Indialantic / Indian Harbor!! The decor is gorgeous, the ambiance is laid back, and the food... the food is out of this world!! I would recommend this most definitely to all of my friends! We went on a Wednesday night, and they have live entertainment as well. The service was fantastic. It is fine dining without the extremely high prices or the stuffy atmosphere. I highly recommend the onion crusted chicken or grouper. The mashed potatoes are phenomenal! They even have a great selection for children.

  • Deb Z.

Went on a groupon. Good value. 2 appetizers 4 dinners 2 desserts 84 dollars. We had conch fritters and oysters Rockefeller . Both were very tasty and cooked well. Fritters were not oily and full of conch which was nice. My son loved the oysters! For dinner my daughter and I had fish. I had mahi with mango salsa. It was tasty. My daughter had the breaded grouper. Breaking was nice but fish was tasteless. My son had the rack of lamb which he devoured. He really loved them. He cleaned his plate. My husband had the fish special. Not so good. 2 pieces of fish and a crab cake. Couldn't taste the crab at all, so overpowered by old bay seasoning. Pretty much in edible . The other 2 pieces of fish were painfully overdone. Dessert was excellent. Chocolate cake and home made cannoli. I could have eaten them both all night long. We will give this place another try.

I was hesitant about this place, considering some not-so-good Yelp reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. My grandma took mom and I out to celebrate New Years Eve. Our waiter was very familiar with the specials of the night, and was also well versed in the wine selection, although there were not that many wines that were available by the glass. One star was taken off for this and the aesthetics, which should have been nicer for the type of venue this restaurant purports to fall under (4-5 star). I ordered an escargot appetizer, and while it was delicious, the portion was very small. I ordered a grouper, and it was delightfully tasteful. Some other reviewers noted stingy portions - for the salad and appetizer, definitely, but not so much for the main course. There was also free wifi here, which was a small nicety.

  • Ashley D.

We waited about 45 minutes for our meal which was The fillet dinner and my friend ordered a shrimp cocktail and an order of green beans.. When we asked the bartender why our meal was taking so long, (considering that the place was nearly empty there was only about four people in the whole restaurant besides a party that was leaving in the back) she got really snippy with us and gave a little bit of attitude that was kind of unnecessary and stated the reason why is because the steaks take 20 minutes to cook which is perfectly fine because the steak was absolutely PERFECT once I got it however the atmosphere was a little drab and the waitress just gave us the little bit of attitude that one moment, other than that, the food was fantastic and I would definitely go back.

Just dropped in for an early evening snack. Not quite hungry enough for dinner, but wanted something a bit heavier than a smoothie. The crab bisque was excellent. Possibly the best I've had. The conch fritters, I feel were a bit over cooked for my taste. (See picture.) The kid had the soup of the day. Can't remember what was in it, but he enjoyed it. (And he also enjoyed the warm bread served with the soup.). He didn't like much on the menu, made a special request of a grilled cheese sandwich and the chef was gracious and prepared a great one. :-) Didn't order any entree', so I can't share much about that. The service was excellent. Will definitely return.

I went with a group of 6 others so we were a larger table and decided to sit outside in their screened off area which was really nice. Our server was absent a lot of the night. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't super busy for the really slow service we were getting. We were waiting probably 15 minutes after deciding what to get before he came back out. And the food took another 15-20 minutes to come out. I ordered the Cajun chicken pasta, it was okay. This is one dish I order almost whenever it is offered, and I must say this is probably the worst Cajun pasta I have had. The sauce itself was not really Cajun, all that seasoning was on the chicken the sauce was more a cream sauce. I also feel like the portion size was pretty small in comparison to other places and the price. I did appreciate that the entrees come with a salad, which was great it came with cheese on top and cucumbers and chickpeas. The other people in my group ordered the flank steak and one ordered the filet. They liked their meals and I tried one of the plantains from my friends plate. I liked it a lot it had good flavor and texture. The atmosphere of this place is nice, but I would not come back based on the service and lack of flavor to the food.

This new local restaurant is definitely a must try! It is a little pricey if you are having a complete 4 course meal. My husband and I tried out the Rumfire on a Thursday night. We were immediately greeted and sat by a friendly hostess. We were brought to our tables and were immediately offered drinks and a chance to look over the menu. Zach, our waiter, was polite, fast, entertaining and very professional. We had the special for the evening (Swordfish) which was phenomenal. This place is definitely a must try!

Dec 24th 2013, Party of 5, Service excellent,(thanks Adam) drinks excellent, ambiance excellent , Music excellent (Paul B on Sax +) Food very pricy, portion control extremely small. house salad portion skimpy, strip steak excellent portion of sides skimpy, swordfish and maui taste excellent portion stingy, prime rib tough and tasteless, Very disappointing as we work hard for our money, and expect much better when we spend $150.00. Will try for lunch perhaps. Harvey+ Donna Melbourne Fl.

First time visit. Nice interior and very friendly staff. Menu is a bit pricey compared to alternatives in the area. Good beer menu. House wine is mediocre. Bottle wine is typical markup. Food selection is fair...they do not offer low-carb appetizers or entries. Food presentation was good. Food quality was only fair. Had the "fresh" sword fish. It was a least a few days old so the edges were "fishy". Good sauce however. Veggie selection was typically limited as it is with most local restaurants that are catering to the vacationing beach crowd..."gimme my fried stuff!" Overall three stars as the food is not as good as the prices would suggest. Recommendations: Improve the menu by offering more up-to-date items to include low carb or "Peleo" options (google it if unsure what this is). Toss your fish after a day if not sold...customers can tell the difference. Get more vegetables on the menu.

The atmosphere is very nice and open and comfortable with carefree music. The service has been exceptional. The problem is with the food. The first time I went there, I ordered a seafood pasta dish with a cream sauce. It came out with egg noodles. Seriously? -___- The sauce was nothing to write home about either. Anyway I decided to give it another try. I ordered a special they had. Grilled snapper topped with crawfish and hollandaise, served with rice and fresh green beans. Sounds pretty bangin right? Nope. The snapper was way overcooked, the hollandaise was a joke (basically pure butter) and the rice had an unprecedented amount of curry in it. And I like curry... Its pretty sad when the best thing on your plate is green beans. 3 stars for service and atmosphere. Period. I'll probaly try this place again because I think it has a lot of potential. The specials are very creative and inspiring (being a cook myself). I just hope they actually read these reviews and put more pressure on the chef to execute his dishes properly.

Good food and wonderful ambiance. The portions are small for salad and appetizers so don't be afraid to order a few. Cesar salad wasn't up to my standard of good. Oysters Rockefeller was just ok. Steak was cooked perfect and very good.

Yuck..... by all accounts, bad food, bad service, and expensive to boot!

We sat at the bar& we're ell cared for. There are daily specials to partake of and the menu has something for everyone. A nice mid-week choice! The skirt steak was tasty as well as the beef kabobs.
